Höfen was a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the canton of Bern. On January 1, 2014, Höfen joined with two other nearby towns, Niederstocken and Oberstocken. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Stocken-Höfen.
Where is Höfen?
Before it merged, Höfen covered an area of about 4.6 square kilometers (1.8 square miles). A large part of this land, about 74%, was used for farming. This means people grew crops or raised animals there.
About 16% of the land was covered by forests. Around 6% of the area had buildings or roads. A small part, about 2%, was made up of rivers or lakes. The rest was land that couldn't be used for farming or building.
A lake called Uebeschisee is partly located within what used to be Höfen.
Who Lived in Höfen?
In 2011, Höfen had a population of 444 people. Most people living there spoke German, which was about 98.7% of the population in 2000. A very small number of people spoke French or Rhaeto-romance.
In 2007, the most popular political party in Höfen was the SVP. They received almost half of all the votes. Other parties like the Green Party and the SPS also received votes.
Many young people lived in Höfen. In 2000, about 29% of the population were children and teenagers (under 19 years old). Most adults (ages 20-64) made up about 59% of the population. Older people (over 64) were about 11%.
Most adults in Höfen were well-educated. About 77.7% of people aged 25 to 64 had finished high school or gone on to higher education.
