HMS Prince Regent was a very large warship called a 'ship of the line'. It had 120 guns and three decks. This powerful ship was launched on April 12, 1823. It was built at Chatham Dockyard in the United Kingdom.

The Mighty Prince Regent Warship

HMS Prince Regent was a first rate ship. This means it was one of the largest and most powerful warships of its time. It had three main decks where its many guns were placed. These ships were the backbone of the Royal Navy for many years.

Design and Features

The ship was part of the Caledonia-class. These ships were known for their size and strength. Prince Regent was built to carry 120 guns. These guns were spread across its three decks. It relied on sails to move across the oceans.

Service in the Baltic Sea

Prince Regent played a role in the Crimean War. This war took place from 1853 to 1856. The ship was part of the Baltic campaign in 1854. This was the first part of the campaign in the Baltic Sea. It helped the British fleet during this time.

Changing with Technology

As technology advanced, ships began to use steam power. In 1861, Prince Regent was updated. It was converted into a 'screw ship'. This meant it had a propeller (a 'screw') that could push it through the water. This allowed it to move even when there was no wind.

End of Service

After many years of service, HMS Prince Regent was no longer needed. The ship was 'broken up' in 1873. This means it was taken apart. Its materials were then reused or scrapped.
