Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman (Urdu: حافظ حفیظ الرحمان) is a Pakistani politician. He served as the second Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. This is like being the head of the government for that area. He was also a leader for the PML-N political party in Gilgit-Baltistan. He held the office of Chief Minister from June 26, 2015, to June 23, 2020.
About Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman
Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman was born in January 1969. His birthplace was the Kashtore neighborhood of Gilgit. This area is part of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. He went to school in Gilgit City for his early education. Later, he studied religious education at Jamia Farida madrassa in Lahore, Punjab.
His older brother, Saif Rehman, was very important in starting the Pakistan Muslim League-N party in Gilgit-Baltistan. Sadly, his brother passed away in 2003. This event led Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman to become more involved in politics.
His Journey in Politics
Before joining the PML-N party, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman was connected with another group called Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam. After his brother's passing, he officially joined the political scene in Gilgit-Baltistan.
He was elected as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. He also became the leader of the PML-N party in that region. He won his seat from the GBLA-2 area. He won with a lot of votes in the 2015 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election.
In the 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election, he ran again from the GBLA-2 area. However, he did not win this time.
