Hajime Hosogai (細貝 萌, Hosogai Hajime, born 10 June 1986) is a Japanese professional footballer. He plays for Thespa Gunma. He is a very flexible player. He can play as a full-back or a defensive midfielder. Hosogai played 30 games for the Japan national team and scored one goal.

Hajime Hosogai's Club Journey
Starting Strong at Urawa Red Diamonds
Hajime Hosogai began his professional career with Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan. He was seen as one of their most promising young players. He helped the team win the AFC Champions League in 2007. After this big win, he also played for Urawa in the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup.
Moving to Germany: Bayer Leverkusen and FC Augsburg
In December 2010, Hosogai moved from Japan to Germany. He joined the German club Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Soon after, he was loaned to FC Augsburg. On September 9, 2011, he scored his first goal in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league. He helped FC Augsburg avoid being moved down to a lower league. After that, he returned to Bayer Leverkusen for the 2012–13 season.
Playing for Hertha BSC and Bursaspor
Hosogai later joined Hertha BSC, another German club. He played there for a few seasons. In 2015, he went on loan to Bursaspor, a club in Turkey.
Later Career in Japan and Thailand
In July 2016, Hosogai moved back to Germany to play for VfB Stuttgart. The next year, in March 2017, he returned to Japan and joined Kashiwa Reysol. In December 2018, he moved to Thailand to play for Buriram United. A year later, in December 2019, he was loaned to Bangkok United for a season. In October 2024, Hosogai announced that he would retire from football at the end of the season.
Hajime Hosogai's International Career
Playing for Japan's Youth Teams
Hajime Hosogai played for Japan at many different youth levels. He was part of the Japan team that played in the 2008 Summer Olympics. This was a big achievement for him as a young player.
Joining the Senior National Team
He made his first appearance for the Japan senior national team on September 4, 2010. This was in a game against Paraguay. He played in his usual position as a central midfielder. The game took place at his home stadium in Saitama, Japan, and Japan won 1–0.
First Goal for Japan
Hosogai scored his first goal for the senior national team on January 25, 2011. This important goal happened during the semi-final match of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup against South Korea.
