A Musician's Journey

In 1981, Hal moved to Austin, Texas. There, he often visited Gruene Hall, a famous old dance hall. This inspired him to try singing and writing his own songs. By 1985, he was performing in small clubs across Texas. He even won an award at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1986 for his songwriting.

In 1986, Hal recorded 11 of his own songs for an album called Threadbare Alibis. It was released in 1988. After this, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, which is a big music city. There, he signed a record deal with Curb Records.

His song "Stay Forever" was his last top-ten hit. In 1994, Hal Ketchum also became a member of the Grand Ole Opry, which is a huge honor for country music artists.
