Haley Kopmeyer's Early Life and School Soccer
Haley Kopmeyer was born on June 28, 1990, to Joseph and Patricia Kopmeyer. She grew up in Michigan, where she attended Lahser High School and Seaholm High School.
High School Soccer Achievements
Haley was a talented soccer player from a young age. In 2007, she was named to the all-state first team. This means she was one of the best players in the entire state! She also earned spots on the all-district, all-conference, and all-region first teams. That same year, she was recognized as a Parade All-American and an NSCAA youth All-American. In 2006, she was named to the all-state second team.
College Soccer Career at University of Michigan
Haley went to the University of Michigan from 2008 to 2012. She studied political science and Spanish.
Freshman Year and Injury
During her first year, Haley received an award for her academic achievements. Unfortunately, she had an injury that ended her season early. She used a "medical redshirt," which means she could play another year later because of her injury.
Sophomore Year Success
In her second year, Haley became a key player. She led her conference, the Big Ten, in many goalkeeping stats. She had the most saves (56) and the best save percentage (.862) during conference games. Overall, she had 95 saves. She played in 16 games and started 15 of them. She also set a new school record for rookie goalkeepers with six shutouts (games where the other team doesn't score). She earned another academic award and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Setting Records and Senior Year Honors
In 2011, Haley set a new record for the most saves in a single season for a Michigan women's soccer player.
By 2012, as a fifth-year senior, Haley started all 24 matches. She made 95 saves and played almost every minute of the season. She had 11 full shutouts. Haley was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year. Her team reached the "Sweet Sixteen" in the national tournament. She was also named to the NSCAA All-America Second Team, meaning she was one of the best college players in the country.

This award goes to the team with the best record. They made it to the championship final but lost a close game. Haley played in four games that season and had a great save record.
