The Story of Kalabar's Revenge
Marnie (Kimberly J. Brown) has spent two years with her grandmother Aggie (Debbie Reynolds). They are hosting a Halloween party for their neighbors. Marnie wants to impress a new boy named Kal (Daniel Kountz). She shows him Aggie's secret magic room.
Soon, Aggie starts to notice strange magic happening. She and Marnie decide to visit Halloweentown to find out what's wrong. They need to fix the problem before the portal between Halloweentown and the human world closes at midnight on Halloween.
The Grey Spell
When they arrive in Halloweentown, everything has changed. The whole town is now black and white! The magical creatures living there have turned into boring, colorless humans. Even Marnie's goblin friend, Luke (Phillip Van Dyke), looks different.
Aggie realizes this is a powerful "Grey Spell". She contacts her grandson Dylan (Joey Zimmerman) back home. She asks him to look for a spell in her spell book. But Dylan and Sophie (Emily Roeske) find the book is missing!
Marnie and Aggie then learn a shocking truth. Kal is actually a warlock! He is the son of their old enemy, Kalabar, from the first movie. Kal stole Aggie's spell book. He wants to stop her from ruining his plan. He plans to get revenge on both Halloweentown and the human world.
Aggie looks for another copy of her spell book in her Halloweentown house. But it's gone too, and she feels hopeless. While talking with Aggie, Marnie accidentally turns Luke back into his goblin form. They don't understand how it happened, but they think it might be temporary.
Finding the Missing Book
The three of them go to see Gort (Blu Mankuma). He is known for collecting lost items from both worlds. Gort has also been affected by the Grey Spell. He sold most of his junk because of it. The group gets trapped in Gort's house. Aggie also loses her color and starts sorting socks with Gort.
Marnie uses time travel to go back to Gort's house before the Grey Spell happened. When Marnie and Luke arrive, they learn something important. Gort sold the spare spell book to Kalabar about 50 years ago!
They remember what Marnie said when Luke turned back into a goblin. They realize the Grey Spell can be reversed by saying "Trapa." This is "Apart" spelled backwards!
Kal's Plan and the Final Battle
Kal has already turned Halloweentown into a dull, black-and-white copy of the human world. Now, he starts turning the human world into a scary monster movie version of Halloweentown.
Sophie and Dylan realize that Alex (Peter Wingfield), who they thought was Kal's father, is actually a golem. Kal made him to distract their mother, Gwen (Judith Hoag). This happens at a high-school Halloween party. Kal's spell works, turning the party guests into the monsters they are dressed as. This causes a lot of chaos! Dylan and Sophie hide from the monster humans, including their own mother.
Marnie frees Aggie, but it's too late. The portal to the human world closes, trapping them in Halloweentown. Marnie refuses to give up. She contacts her siblings. Together, they create a new spell. This spell forces the portal between Halloweentown and the human world to open permanently!
Kal angrily confronts Marnie. She teases him and demands the spell book back. Kal creates slimy, living snake-like vines of dark magic. He uses them to grab both spell books, trying to show he is more powerful. But he fails when Marnie takes them from him. Kal is sent away by the vines. The family then breaks his spells in both the human world and Halloweentown. Kal promises to return for his revenge!
