Discovering Hallstahammar
Hallstahammar is a town with a rich past. It sits right by the small river Kolbäcksån. This river was very important for industries that started here long ago.
Strömsholm Castle History
Around 1558, King Gustaf Vasa built Strömsholm Castle. It's located next to a beautiful lake. The castle you see today was built in the 1680s. Now, it's a fascinating museum you can visit!
Industry and Transport
In 1628, the first smithy was built along the river. This started the town's industrial journey. Later, in 1795, the Strömsholm Canal opened. This canal made it much easier to transport goods. Hallstahammar then became a busy center for transport and trade. By the 1930s, it was known as a typical Swedish industrial town. It had strong connections to the engineering industry.
Modern Hallstahammar
From the 1970s, the importance of heavy industry slowly changed. Today, Hallstahammar is known for something unique. Its local bus service is completely free! This is one of the few places in Sweden with free public transport.
The TV show Vänner och Fiender was filmed here. It was a popular Swedish soap opera. The studio where it was made was even called Hollyhammar!
Local Economy
