Hambledon Church, also known as St. Peter's, is a Christian church in Hambledon, Surrey, United Kingdom. It is part of the Church of England. This church works closely with Busbridge Church, which is near the town of Godalming. Together, Busbridge and Hambledon Church offer six different Sunday services. These services range from traditional to more modern styles.

A Look Back: History of Hambledon Church

Hambledon Church has a very long history. It was started by a person named Ranaulf Flambard before the year 1086. Records show that people have been worshipping here since before the 1300s.

On the church's west wall, there is a list of all the rectors. Rectors are like the main priests of the church. This list goes all the way back to 1301 and includes the current rector.

Long ago, the western part of Surrey was part of the Diocese of Winchester. A diocese is an area managed by a bishop. Later, in the early 1900s, the Diocese of Guildford was created. This new, closer diocese helped the church connect better with its leaders.

Church Design: Architecture of Hambledon

The church building has a tall, square tower at its western end. This tower is covered with wood shingles. It has double windows with slats for the bells. The tower roof is shaped like a pyramid. On top, there is a ball and a weather vane.

Strong supports called buttresses hold up the west end of the church. Above two tall, narrow windows, there is a round window shaped like a four-leaf clover. Other windows on the south side have special designs. These include a "decorated style" window and another with plate tracery.

Many of these fancy decorations were added in 1846. The building is officially listed as Grade II. This means it is an important historical building that needs to be protected.

Sunday Services at Hambledon Church

Hambledon Church offers different services on Sundays. Each service has its own style.

9:00am Heritage Service

This is a popular service that uses the Book of Common Prayer from 1662. This book contains traditional prayers and services. The music for the hymns is played on an organ.

10:30am Contemporary Service

This service has a modern and relaxed style. There are special groups for children every Sunday, except for the first Sunday of the month. On the first Sunday, there is a service for all ages. This service includes Messy Church activities, crafts, and worship. A band leads the music. Holy Communion is offered on the third Sunday of each month.
