A Look at Hamill's Past
Hamill started in April 1909. It was first called Roseland. Later, it was renamed after Gail Hamill, who was an important person in the town. He was a pioneer merchant, the postmaster, and a banker.
In 1909, a railroad company called the Milwaukee Road planned a train route through Roseland. However, this train line was never built.
Did you know that Carrie Ingalls, the sister of Laura Ingalls Wilder (who wrote the Little House on the Prairie books), worked in Hamill? In 1910, she moved to Hamill from Pedro, South Dakota to work at the local newspaper, the Roseland Review.
