Hamilton Belal Green was an important politician from Guyana, a country in South America. He was born on November 9, 1934. He is known for being the fourth Prime Minister of Guyana. He was also the first and only Muslim Prime Minister and head of government in the Western Hemisphere.

His Life and Work
Hamilton Green has been involved in politics and trade unions since 1961. Trade unions are groups that work to protect the rights of workers.
Early Political Roles
He was a member of a political group called the People's National Congress (PNC). In October 1980, he was chosen as one of five Vice Presidents in the government led by Forbes Burnham.
Serving as Prime Minister
Hamilton Green served as the Prime Minister of Guyana from August 6, 1985, to October 9, 1992. The Prime Minister is the head of the government in many countries. He left this important role in 1992 after new elections were held in Guyana. These elections were considered fair and were watched by former President Jimmy Carter.
After leaving the PNC party in 1993, Hamilton Green started his own political party. It was called Good and Green Guyana (GGG).
Mayor of Georgetown
Besides being Prime Minister, Hamilton Green also served as the Mayor of Georgetown. Georgetown is the capital city of Guyana. He was the Mayor for a long time, from 1994 until 2016.
Other Activities
In 2003, he attended a special meeting called the Summit of World Leaders. This event was sponsored by Sun Myung Moon. Hamilton Green is also a member of the main council for the Universal Peace Federation, an organization that promotes peace.
