Hamilton Belal Green was born on 9 November 1934. He is a politician from Guyana, a country in South America. He is best known for serving as the fourth Prime Minister of Guyana. He holds a special place in history as the first and only Muslim Prime Minister of Guyana. He was also the first and only Muslim head of government in the Western Hemisphere.

Hamilton Green has been involved in politics since 1961. He was also active in trade unions, which are groups that protect workers' rights. He was a member of the People's National Congress (PNC) party. In October 1980, he became one of five Vice Presidents in the government led by Forbes Burnham. Later, he served as the Prime Minister of Guyana from 6 August 1985 to 9 October 1992.

Hamilton Green began his journey in politics many years ago. He was a key member of the People's National Congress (PNC) party. This party was very important in Guyana's history. His early roles helped him gain experience in how the government works.

Becoming Prime Minister

In 1985, Hamilton Green became the Prime Minister of Guyana. This is a very important job, similar to being the head of the government. He worked alongside President Desmond Hoyte. During his time as Prime Minister, he helped lead the country.

Leaving Office

In 1992, Hamilton Green left his position as Prime Minister. This happened after new elections were held in Guyana. These elections were considered fair and were watched by former US President Jimmy Carter.

Forming a New Political Party

After leaving the People's National Congress (PNC), Hamilton Green decided to start his own political party.

Starting Good and Green Guyana

In March 1993, Hamilton Green formed a new party called Good and Green Guyana (GGG). He did this after leaving his former party, the People's National Congress. This showed his strong belief in his political ideas.

Serving as Mayor of Georgetown

Hamilton Green was not only a national leader but also a local one. He was born in Georgetown, the capital city of Guyana.

From 1994 to 2016, Hamilton Green served as the Mayor of Georgetown. As Mayor, he was responsible for managing the city. This included things like public services and local development. He held this position for many years, showing his dedication to his hometown.
