Hamilton South is a suburb in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It is located about 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) west of Newcastle's main city area.
This area was once part of a large piece of land owned by the Australian Agricultural Company. They used the land for coal mining. Around 1910, when mining stopped, people decided to create a special neighbourhood here. They wanted to build fancy homes to attract wealthier residents. Today, you can still see many beautiful houses built in the "late federation style," which was popular at that time.
Hamilton South has its own public school, which opened in 1933. The suburb also has several parks and sports fields. These include Learmonth Park, Darling Oval, and Henry Park, where you can play and relax.
