Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, born on September 5, 2001, is a professional rugby league player. He is often called "Hammer" by his fans and teammates. Hamiso plays as a fullback for the Dolphins team in the National Rugby League (NRL). He also plays as a centre for the Queensland team in the exciting State of Origin.

Before joining the Dolphins, he played for the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL. Hamiso has also represented his heritage and country. He played for Samoa and Australia in international games. He has also been part of the Indigenous All Stars team and the Prime Minister's XIII. Earlier in his career, Hamiso played as a winger.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow's Early Life and Sports Journey

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow grew up in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. His mother is an Indigenous Australian Torres Strait Islander, and his father is Samoan. He started playing junior rugby league for the Cairns Kangaroos.

He also played junior Australian rules football. In 2013, he was recognized as one of the best players in Queensland's underage championships. After a great game for Cairns Hawks in 2016, he joined the Gold Coast Suns Academy. Hamiso admired famous Australian rules football player Buddy Franklin. He almost signed with the Suns.

However, he chose a scholarship to play rugby union for Brisbane Grammar School. While in Brisbane, he was part of the Queensland Reds rugby union development squad. In 2017, the North Queensland Cowboys rugby league club signed him. He then moved to Townsville in 2018 and finished school at Kirwan State High School.

Starting Out in Rugby League (2018-2019)

In 2018, Hamiso played for the Northern Pride's Mal Meninga Cup team in Cairns. He scored five tries in seven games. In 2019, he moved to Townsville and joined the North Queensland under-20 squad. He played for the Townsville Blackhawks Mal Meninga Cup team, scoring thirteen tries in six games.

After this, he played as a fullback for the Queensland under-18 team. They won against New South Wales. He then moved up to the Blackhawks' Hastings Deering Colts team, scoring eight tries in five games. In June 2019, he signed a new contract with the North Queensland team until the end of the 2022 season. On September 29, 2019, he played as a centre for the Australian Schoolboys. He scored two tries in their win against the Junior Kiwis.

In 2020, Hamiso joined the North Queensland Cowboys NRL team. He was part of their team that won the 2020 NRL Nines tournament. He was also the equal leading try scorer in that tournament. In round 5 of the 2020 NRL season, Hamiso made his NRL debut against the New Zealand Warriors. He helped set up two tries in a close game. In round 7, he scored his first NRL try in a win against the Newcastle Knights.

In his first season, Hamiso played 14 games and scored six tries. On October 3, he was named the North Queensland club's Rookie of the Year.

Hamiso was chosen to play for Queensland in game 3 of the 2021 State of Origin series. Queensland won that game 20-18. On July 21, it was announced that he would miss six weeks of play due to a medical procedure.

In round 13 of the 2022 NRL season, he scored two tries for North Queensland. This helped them win 32-6 against the Gold Coast. Hamiso played 23 games for North Queensland that year and scored seven tries. He played in both of the club's finals games. This included their preliminary final loss against Parramatta. On October 5, he signed a two-year contract to join the new Dolphins team, starting in 2023.

In October 2022, Hamiso was selected for the Samoa squad. He played one game in the 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England.

Playing for the Dolphins (2023-Present)

In round 1 of the 2023 NRL season, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow made history. He scored the very first try for the Dolphins in their NRL history. The next week, he scored two more tries as the Dolphins beat Canberra 20–14.

In round 6, Hamiso scored two tries against his old team, the North Queensland Cowboys. The Dolphins won 32–22. He became only the second player in Australian Rugby League history to score at least one try in each of his team's first six games in their first season. The first was Horrie Miller in 1908.

Before round 8, the Dolphins extended Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow's contract. He will stay with the team until at least the end of the 2027 season. In Round 9, he scored a try in the Dolphins' close 30-31 loss to the Canberra Raiders. In round 10, he scored another try for the Dolphins in their 36–16 victory over the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks.

In May 2023, Hamiso was chosen to play for Queensland as a centre. This was for Game I of the 2023 State of Origin series against New South Wales. In that game, Hamiso scored two tries. Queensland defeated New South Wales 26–18.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow holds several "first try scorer" records for the Dolphins. He was the first Dolphin to score in an NRL game. He was also the first Dolphin to score at their home stadiums, Suncorp Stadium and Kayo Stadium. Additionally, he was the first Dolphin to score in a representative game, which was Game 1 of the 2023 State of Origin series.

In October 2023, Hamiso was selected to play for Australia in the 2023 Pacific Championships.

After the Dolphins' game against Brisbane in round 6 of the 2024 NRL season, it was announced that Hamiso would miss at least four weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow was named in the centres for Queensland for game one of the 2024 State of Origin series. In that game, he scored a hat-trick of tries. Queensland won 38-10 against New South Wales. He played a total of 16 games for the Dolphins in the 2024 NRL season. He scored 15 tries as the club finished 10th on the table.

In round 6 of the 2025 NRL season, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow scored another hat-trick for the Dolphins. They had a big 30-12 victory over Penrith. In round 17, he scored four tries in the Dolphins' 50-28 win against South Sydney. In May 2025, Hamiso was selected by Queensland for the 2025 State of Origin series. Queensland went on to win the series 2-1.
