Haneed (pronounced Ha-need), also sometimes called Hanida, is a super tasty lamb dish that comes from the country of Yemen. It's a bit like a special roast lamb, cooked slowly until it's super soft and delicious! You can also find Haneed enjoyed in other countries like Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and even parts of Somalia and Ethiopia. It's a really popular meal, especially in Yemeni restaurants all around the world.
Haneed is often served on a big plate of fluffy rice. It's similar to another dish called Mandi, but Haneed has its own unique flavor. That's because it's cooked in a special oven called a tannour and uses a different mix of spices.
How Haneed is Made
Making Haneed is a special process that takes time and care. It starts with chunks of lamb, usually with the bone still in.
Spicing the Lamb
First, the lamb pieces are covered in a special mix of spices. This is called a "dry rub." The spices are rubbed all over the meat. This helps to give Haneed its amazing flavor.
Slow Cooking in a Tannour Oven
After being spiced, the lamb is cooked in a special oven called a tannour. This oven is very hot and cooks the meat slowly. The lamb cooks for about six hours at a very low temperature. This long, slow cooking makes the meat incredibly tender and juicy. It practically falls off the bone!
Serving Haneed
Once it's perfectly cooked, Haneed is usually served on a large plate. It often comes with a bed of fluffy rice. This makes it a hearty and satisfying meal.
