Francis Edward Lauricella, known as Hank Lauricella (October 9, 1930 – March 25, 2014), was an amazing American real estate developer and a true legend in American football. He also served as a member of the Louisiana State Legislature, helping to make laws for his state.

Hank Lauricella's Early Life and High School Football
Hank Lauricella was born in 1930 in Harahan, Louisiana. He grew up to be a fantastic athlete.
High School Football Star
Hank became a star football player at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1947, his team won the city championship. They used a special football strategy called the "single wing offense."
College Football Achievements
After high school, Hank went on to play college football at the University of Tennessee. He played for the famous coach Robert Neyland from 1949 to 1951.
Winning National Championships
Hank was a key player on the Tennessee Volunteers team that won the National Championship in 1950. The very next year, in 1951, his team won another National Championship! This was a huge achievement for him and his team.
A Top Player in College Football
Hank Lauricella was known for playing as a running back in the single wing offense. This meant he was often the main player carrying the ball and even throwing passes. In 1951, he was named an All-American, which means he was one of the best college football players in the country.
That same year, he almost won the Heisman Trophy. This award goes to the most outstanding player in college football. Hank was the runner-up to Dick Kazmaier from Princeton University. In 1981, Hank Lauricella was honored by being elected into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Later, he became a Louisiana State Senator for Jefferson Parish. He served in the State Senate from 1972 all the way until 1996. This shows he was a very dedicated public servant. He started as a Democrat but later became a Republican.
