Hannah's Exciting Career
Sailing Adventures
Hannah first discovered sailing when she was 15 years old. A friend's family introduced her to this exciting sport. Her first time at Cowes Week, a famous sailing event, was a bit tough. She felt like a beginner and was "always getting in the way." But this was just the start of her sailing journey!
In 2009, Hannah took part in the OSTAR race. This is a solo race across the Atlantic Ocean, from Plymouth, UK, to Newport, USA. It's a very long race, about 3,200 nautical miles! Hannah finished in second place. She completed the race in 20 days and 22 minutes. She almost set a new world record for sailors under 35 feet, missing it by just a few minutes.
Hannah tried to cross the Atlantic Ocean alone two times. Her first attempt was in 2005, when she was the youngest female competitor ever. One of her attempts was successful.
Breaking a World Record
In 2015, Hannah achieved something incredible. She became a Guinness World Records holder! She sailed across the English Channel in a small, single-handed boat called a dinghy. She did it in just 3 hours, 44 minutes, and 39 seconds. This made her the fastest person to complete this challenge.
Broadcasting and TV
While Hannah was a professional sailor, she often appeared in the news. She worked for BBC local radio and ITV Meridian. She reported on many maritime and sailing events.
In 2010, Hannah joined the commentary team for the Sail for Gold event. This was an Olympic test event held in Weymouth. In 2011, she became the main presenter for the World Match Racing Tour. This show was broadcast to over 180 countries around the world. The live coverage of the Monsoon Cup in Malaysia was even nominated for an award!
At the end of 2011, Hannah started working with the Volvo Ocean Race. She was the Master of Ceremonies and a presenter. She talked about the races and hosted award ceremonies. She also presented at arrival and departure events. About 2.9 million people watched these events worldwide.
Hannah was also a co-presenter and commentator for the sailing events at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. These events took place in Weymouth.
Go Hard or Go Home TV Show
In January 2014, Hannah had her own television show called Go Hard or Go Home. Channel 5 produced the show. In it, Hannah chose different people and trained them for tough athletic challenges.
