Hanna–Barbera Land was a fun theme park based on the famous cartoons from the Hanna-Barbera animation studio. It was located in Spring, Texas, in the United States. The park was open for two years, in 1984 and 1985. It brought beloved characters like Scooby-Doo and The Smurfs to life for visitors.
Why Hanna-Barbera Land Closed
The park was built by a company called Taft Broadcasting. This company later became the Kings Entertainment Company. Kings Entertainment also owned other big theme parks. These included Canada's Wonderland and Kings Island.
Even though more people visited Hanna-Barbera Land in 1985, it faced some challenges. The local economy was not strong. There was also a very popular park nearby called AstroWorld. People also did not spend much money on food or souvenirs inside the park. Because of these reasons, the park had to close down.
What Happened Next
After closing, the park was sold to new owners. A water park called SplashTown USA was built in its place. Over the years, the park was sold a few more times. In 1999, Six Flags bought it.
Six Flags later renamed it Six Flags SplashTown. In 2007, it was sold again to another company. The park was then called Wet N' Wild Splashtown. In 2019, it became Six Flags Hurricane Harbor SplashTown once more.
Exciting Attractions at the Park
Hanna-Barbera Land had many fun things to do for families and kids. Here are some of the attractions visitors could enjoy:
