History of Harefield
Harefield has an interesting past, especially concerning its post office. The first post office in the area opened on September 1, 1879. Back then, it was called Gerilgambeth Post Office.
Its name changed to Wallaceton in 1880. Then, in 1882, it was renamed Harefield, the name we know today. The Harefield Post Office served the local community for many years. It finally closed its doors in 1980.
Harefield's Freight Terminal
Harefield is an important spot for moving goods around. A new freight container terminal started working here in 2012. This terminal helps transport large containers of goods by train.
It is planned that up to 160 large, 12-meter (40 foot) containers can be stored at Harefield at one time. Even bigger trains, capable of carrying 104 containers, are planned to use this site. This makes Harefield a key location for logistics in the region.
