Haris Brkić (Serbian: Харис Бркић; July 24, 1974 – December 15, 2000) was a talented basketball player from Yugoslavia. He was best known for playing with the Partizan club, where he achieved many great things. Fans still remember him for how much he helped the team.

Club Career

Haris Brkić started playing basketball when he was 10 years old. He played for a club called Bosna in his hometown of Sarajevo.

In 1992, when he was 17, a war started in his home country. Haris moved to Serbia to stay safe. Soon after, he got a chance to try out for KK Partizan, a famous basketball club. He joined their youth team. At the same time, Partizan's main team had just won a big European championship!

In the summer of 1992, Haris was sent to play for another team, KK Borac Čačak, to gain more experience.

A year later, in 1993, he returned to Belgrade and joined Partizan's main team. Haris played for Partizan for the next six seasons. During this time, he helped the team win three national championships and three domestic cups.

Haris was one of the best players on the Partizan team that reached the Final Four in the 1997–98 EuroLeague. This is a very important European basketball competition.

During the 1999–2000 season, he played for Budućnost Podgorica. With them, he won the Yugoslav league championship again. Haris started the 2000–01 season with Budućnost, but in November 2000, he came back to Partizan. He played only three more games for Partizan after his return.

National Team

Youth Team

Haris Brkić was part of the Yugoslav national junior team. This team won the bronze medal at the 1996 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship in Turkey.

He played alongside future stars like Predrag Drobnjak and Dragan Lukovski. In that championship, Haris scored an average of 11.0 points per game over seven games.

Senior Team

Haris also played for the Yugoslav national basketball team in several friendly games. However, he never made it to the final team for the really big competitions.

Death

On December 12, 2000, Haris Brkić left a practice session early because he wasn't feeling well. He was tragically shot by an unknown person while unlocking his car in front of Pionir Hall in Belgrade. Haris passed away three days later. As of July 2022, the person who did this has still not been found.

Every summer, his former teams, Bosna, Partizan, and Budućnost, organize a special memorial tournament to remember him. The fans of Partizan, called Grobari, often chant during games: "You left us Haris, only sadness remains, you will be always loved by Grobari from South stand!"
