Harmon was once a small community in Washburn County, Wisconsin, United States. Today, it is known as a ghost town, which means it's a place where most or all of the people have left, and the buildings might be gone or in ruins. Harmon was located in the town of Stinnett.
Harmon: A Wisconsin Ghost Town
Harmon was situated about 7.8 miles (12.6 kilometers) east-southeast of a town called Minong. It was right along what is now the Canadian National Railway, a major train line.
How Harmon Got Its Name
It is believed that Harmon was named after a well-known politician from Newtown, Thomas Harmon Jr. A politician is someone who works in government, making decisions and laws for the community or country.
Harmon on the Map
Even though Harmon is now a ghost town, it was still shown on maps made by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) as late as 1947. The USGS is a science agency that studies the Earth, including mapping its features.
