Harold William Varner III, born on August 15, 1990, is an American professional golfer. He has played on major golf tours like the PGA Tour and now plays in the LIV Golf League. He has won important tournaments, including the Australian PGA Championship in 2016 and the PIF Saudi International in 2022.

Harold Varner III's Early Golf Journey
Harold Varner III was born in Akron, Ohio. He grew up in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he started playing golf in high school. He went on to play college golf at East Carolina University. He was the first player from his school to be named Conference USA Player of the Year. In 2010, he also played in the U.S. Amateur tournament.
Becoming a Professional Golfer
Harold became a professional golfer in 2012. Before joining the Web.com Tour, he played on smaller tours like the eGolf Professional Tour. He even qualified for the 2013 U.S. Open, a very big tournament.
In 2014, Harold started playing on the Web.com Tour. He did well, finishing in the top 10 twice. His best finish was second place at the Rex Hospital Open. This helped him rank 30th on the money list that season.
The next year, in 2015, he continued to play well. He finished second at the Panama Claro Championship. By finishing 25th on the Web.com Tour money list, he earned a spot on the PGA Tour for the 2015–16 season. Harold Varner III was the first African-American golfer to reach the PGA Tour through the Web.com Tour.
Major Wins and Career Highlights
In December 2016, Harold won his first big professional golf tournament. He won the Australian PGA Championship. This event is part of both the PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour. He was only the second American to win this championship since 1978. He also became the third black man to win on the European Tour.
In May 2019, Harold was in a great position at the PGA Championship. He was tied for second place before the final round. He played in the final group with the eventual winner, Brooks Koepka.
In April 2021, Harold had his best finish yet on the PGA Tour. He tied for second place at the RBC Heritage tournament.
February 2022 brought another big win for Harold. He won the PIF Saudi International on the Asian Tour. He made an amazing 92-foot putt on the very last hole to win by one shot!
In April 2022, Harold was leading the RBC Heritage after three rounds. He finished tied for third place, moving up to his highest world ranking of 36th. Later in 2022, Harold announced he would join LIV Golf. In May 2023, he won his first LIV Golf event in Washington, D.C.
