Harriet Toompere was born on May 22, 1975. She is a talented actress from Estonia. You might have seen her in plays, on TV shows, or in movies. Harriet has also written two fun books for children.

Early Life and Learning

Harriet Toompere was born in Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. Her parents, Hendrik Toompere Sr. and Maie Toompere, were both actors. Acting seems to run in her family! Her older brother, Hendrik Toompere Jr., is also an actor. Even her nephew, Hendrik Toompere Jr. Jr., followed in their footsteps. Her grandfather, Herman Kruusenberg, was a famous wrestler.

Harriet went to the EMA Higher Drama School to study acting. This school is now called the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. She finished her studies and graduated in 1998. Some of her classmates who also became well-known actors include Hilje Murel, Jan Uuspõld, and Tiit Sukk. While at school, she performed in several plays. These included Lugu valgest varesest in 1996 and the musical My Fair Lady in 1997.

Acting on Stage

Harriet Toompere started her acting career on stage in 1998. She joined the Estonian Drama Theatre, and she still works there today! Her very first role at the theatre was playing Susanna Hall in a play called The Herbal Bed.

Over the years, Harriet has played many different characters in plays. She has performed in works by famous writers from Estonia and around the world. Some of the well-known playwrights whose works she has appeared in include William Shakespeare, Molière, and Anton Chekhov. She has also acted in plays by children's author Astrid Lindgren.

Television and Movie Roles

Harriet Toompere has appeared in many Estonian TV shows. Her first important TV role was in a crime drama series called Ohtlik lend in 2006. She played a character named Maarja.

She also had memorable roles in other popular shows:

  • In 2010, she played Anna Moorus in the comedy-crime series Kättemaksukontor.
  • She starred as Anne Kõrvits in the comedy series Unistuste agentuur in 2010.
  • In 2013, she was Stella in the comedy series Mägede Varjud.

  • In 2023, she starred as Tiuks in the comedy film Taevatrepp. In this movie, she acted alongside her partner, Mait Malmsten.

Author of Children's Books

Besides acting, Harriet Toompere is also a writer!

  • In 2005, she wrote her first children's book. It was called Väike Põhjapõder, which means Little Reindeer. Anu Kalm drew the pictures for the book.
  • In 2007, she wrote a second book about the little reindeer. This one was called Väikese põhjapõdra uued lood, meaning New Stories of the Little Reindeer. Anu Kalm also illustrated this book. Both books were published by Varrak.

Personal Life

Harriet Toompere has been in a long-term relationship with fellow actor Mait Malmsten for over twenty years. They have two sons named Hugo and Franz. The family lives in a small village called Andineeme in Estonia.
