Growing Up and School
Harriet Toompere was born in Tallinn, Estonia. She comes from a family of actors. Her father, Hendrik Toompere Sr., was an actor and director. Her mother, Maie Toompere, was also an actress. Her older brother, Hendrik Toompere Jr., and even her nephew, Hendrik Toompere Jr. Jr., are actors too! Her grandfather, Herman Kruusenberg, was a wrestler.
Harriet studied acting at the EMA Higher Drama School. This school is now called the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. She finished her studies in 1998. Many of her classmates became famous actors. These include Hilje Murel, Jan Uuspõld, and Tiit Sukk.
Acting on Stage
Harriet Toompere started her acting career in 1998. She joined the Estonian Drama Theatre. She still works there today! Her very first role was in a play called The Herbal Bed.
Over the years, she has played many different characters. She has been in plays by famous writers. These include William Shakespeare, Molière, and Anton Chekhov. She also performed in plays based on children's stories. One example is a play based on Astrid Lindgren books.
Acting on TV and in Movies
Harriet Toompere has been in many Estonian TV shows. Her first big TV role was in Ohtlik lend in 2006. She played a character named Maarja. Later, she appeared in the comedy-crime show Kättemaksukontor. She also had a main role in the comedy series Unistuste agentuur.
Her first movie role was in a short film called Ränk ja Kilk in 2001. She also narrated a documentary film. This film was about the Forest Brothers who fought against Soviet rule. In 2006, she voiced Sophie in the popular animated children's movie Leiutajateküla Lotte.
Harriet has appeared in several other movies. In 2016, she was in the comedy-drama Õnn tuleb magades. She also acted in the historical war drama Ikitie in 2017. Later that year, she played Nurse Maria in Rohelised kassid. In 2018, she was in the comedy sequel Klassikokkutulek 2.
More recently, she starred in the comedy film Jahihooaeg in 2021. In 2023, she played Tiuks in the comedy movie Taevatrepp. She acted alongside her partner, Mait Malmsten, in this film.
Writing Books for Kids
Harriet Toompere is also a writer! In 2005, she wrote her first children's book. It was called Väike Põhjapõder, which means "Little Reindeer". Anu Kalm drew the pictures for the book.
In 2007, she wrote a second book. It was a sequel called Väikese põhjapõdra uued lood. This means "New Stories of the Little Reindeer". Anu Kalm also illustrated this book. Both books were published by Varrak.
Her Family Life
Harriet Toompere has been with actor Mait Malmsten for over twenty years. They have two sons together, named Hugo and Franz. They live in a small village called Andineeme. This village is in Kuusalu Parish, Harju County.
