Harris Yulin (born Harris Bart Goldberg; November 5, 1937 – June 10, 2025) was an American actor. He appeared in over a hundred movies and TV shows. Some of his well-known roles were in Scarface (1983) and Ghostbusters II (1989). He also acted in Clear and Present Danger (1994) and Bean (1997). In 1996, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his role in the TV show Frasier.

About Harris Yulin's Early Life

Harris Yulin was born in Los Angeles on November 5, 1937. He was adopted as a baby by Isaac and Sylvia Goldberg. They named him Harris Bart Goldberg. When he started acting, he chose "Yulin" as his stage name. This name came from his adoptive father's family.

Yulin went to the University of Southern California. He later joined the United States Army for a year. After that, he moved to Florence, Italy, and tried to be a painter. He said he was "extremely bad at it." In 1962, he lived in Tel Aviv, Israel. Friends encouraged him to try acting there. When he returned to the U.S., he studied acting with coach Jeff Corey.

Harris Yulin's Acting Career

Harris Yulin started his acting career in New York in 1963. He worked a lot in theater throughout his life. He made his Broadway debut in the 1980s. He appeared in many Broadway plays. These included The Visit and The Diary of Anne Frank. In 2010, he played Willy Loman in Death of A Salesman.

Movies Harris Yulin Appeared In

Yulin's first movie role was playing Wyatt Earp in Doc (1971). He played a corrupt police officer in Scarface (1983). In 1989, he was Judge Stephen Wexler in Ghostbusters II. He also played a national security advisor in Clear and Present Danger (1994). In 1997, he was George Grierson in the movie Bean. He played a lawyer, Leon Friedman, in The Hurricane (1999). In 2001, he was a Secret Service Agent in Rush Hour 2.

A film critic once joked that Yulin "should be in every movie ever made." This shows how often he appeared in films.

Harris Yulin's Television Roles

On television, Yulin appeared in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He was also in the second season of 24. There, he played Roger Stanton, the Director of the National Security Agency. He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1996. This was for his role as crime boss Jerome Belasco in Frasier.

In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he played Quentin Travers. He was the head of the Watchers' Council. Yulin also appeared in Entourage. In 2009, he was in The People Speak. This was a documentary film. He also appeared in the AMC series Rubicon in 2010. From 2017 to 2018, he was in 12 episodes of Ozark.

Harris Yulin was cast in a new comedy series called American Classic. He was going to play a character named Linus. Sadly, he passed away just days before he was set to start filming his scenes.

Yulin also worked as a director. He won an award for directing The Trip to Bountiful. He also taught acting in New York City. He taught at Juilliard for eight years. He also taught at Columbia University and HB Studio.

Harris Yulin's Personal Life

Harris Yulin was married to actress Gwen Welles until her death in 1993. He had a daughter named Claire Lucido. Claire passed away on January 31, 2021. His second marriage was to Kristen Lowman, who is also an actress. They lived in Bridgehampton, New York. Harris Yulin passed away from a heart attack in New York City on June 10, 2025. He was 87 years old.
