Colonel Harry Burrard Dalzell, 10th Earl of Carnwath (born November 11, 1804 – died November 1, 1887) was an important Scottish nobleman and a soldier. He was the son of Robert Alexander Dalzell, 6th Earl of Carnwath and Andulusia Browne. As an Earl, he held a special title in the Scottish nobility.

Early Life and Family

Harry Burrard Dalzell was born in 1804. He came from a noble family in Scotland.

On November 16, 1827, he married Isabella Campbell. She was the daughter of Reverend Alexander Campbell. Together, they had four children:

  • Eleanor Carnwath Dalzell (died in 1867)
  • Arthur John Dalzell (1829 – 1849)
  • Captain Robert Augustus Dalzell (1838 – 1869)
  • Lady Edith Isabella Dalzell (born in 1843, died in 1909), who later married Admiral Edward Stanley Adeane

Military Career

Harry Burrard Dalzell chose a career in the military. In 1820, he joined the Bengal Artillery. This was a special part of the British army that served in India.

He quickly rose through the ranks. By 1835, he had become a Colonel. This is a high rank in the army. From 1835 to 1842, he worked as the Commissary of Ordnance in Agra, India. This role meant he was in charge of military supplies and weapons.

Becoming the Earl of Carnwath

In 1875, Harry Burrard Dalzell inherited a very important title. His brother, Arthur Alexander Dalzell, passed away. This meant Harry became the 10th Earl of Carnwath. This title made him a leading figure among the Scottish nobility.

Later Life and Death

Lord Carnwath lived a long life. He passed away on November 1, 1887, in London. He was 82 years old.

After his death, his title was passed on to his nephew, Robert Harris Carnwath Dalzell.
