Haruichi Furudate (Japanese: 古舘 春一, Hepburn: Furudate Haruichi, born March 7, 1983) is a Japanese manga artist. Manga are Japanese comic books or graphic novels. He is famous for creating Haikyu!!. This popular manga series is all about volleyball. Haikyu!! is one of the best-selling manga series ever. It has also been made into many anime TV shows and movies.

About Haruichi Furudate
Haruichi Furudate was born on March 7, 1983. His hometown is Karumai, Iwate, in Japan. After finishing high school, he went to a design school. This school was in Miyagi Prefecture.
In 2008, Furudate wrote a short manga story called King Kid. This story won a special award. It was called the Jump Treasure Newcomer Manga Prize. In 2010, he started his first full manga series. It was published in a magazine called Weekly Shōnen Jump. The series was named Philosophy School, Yotsuya Sensei's Ghost Stories.
Creating Haikyu!!
In 2011, Furudate created Haikyu!!. It started as two short stories. These stories were published in different magazines. The full series of Haikyu!! began in Weekly Shōnen Jump on February 20, 2012.
The series became very popular. It finished being published on July 20, 2020. While it was being published, Haikyu!! won the 61st Shogakukan Manga Award. This award was in the shōnen category. In 2015, it was also ranked as one of the top three manga series for the Sugoi Japan Award.
By 2020, Haikyu!! was one of the top five best-selling manga in Japan. Over seven million copies were sold. The series has also been turned into many other things. These include an anime TV show and a stage play.
Why Volleyball is Important
Furudate loved volleyball when he was younger. He was part of a volleyball club. He played volleyball in both middle school and high school. He often went to school just to play volleyball. Even if his grades were not the best, he always wanted to play. This love for volleyball helped him create Haikyu!!.
