Haruichi Furudate (Japanese: 古舘 春一, Hepburn: Furudate Haruichi, born March 7, 1983) is a Japanese manga artist. A manga artist is someone who draws Japanese comics. He is famous for creating Haikyu!!. This popular manga series is all about volleyball. It has become one of the best-selling manga series ever. Haikyu!! has also been made into anime TV shows and movies.

About Haruichi Furudate
Haruichi Furudate was born on March 7, 1983. His hometown is Karumai, Iwate, Japan. After finishing high school, he went to a design school. This school was in Miyagi Prefecture.
Early Career in Manga
In 2008, Furudate created a short comic called King Kid. This comic won an honorable mention award. It was for the Jump Treasure Newcomer Manga Prize
. This award helps new manga artists.In 2010, he started his first full series. It was called Philosophy School, Yotsuya Sensei's Ghost Stories. This series appeared in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine.
Creating Haikyu!!
The next year, Furudate started working on Haikyu!!. It began as two short stories. These were published in 2011. One was in Jump NEXT!, and the other in Weekly Shōnen Jump.
These short stories became a full series. Haikyu!! started being published regularly in Weekly Shōnen Jump on February 20, 2012. The series finished on July 20, 2020.
Awards and Popularity of Haikyu!!
While Haikyu!! was being published, it won important awards. It received the 61st Shogakukan Manga Award. This award was in the shōnen category. Shōnen manga are comics mainly for young boys.
In 2015, Haikyu!! was one of the top three manga series. This was for the Sugoi Japan Award. By 2020, it was among the top five best-selling manga in Japan. Over seven million copies were sold.
Haikyu!! has also been adapted into many forms. It became a popular anime television series. There was also a stage play based on the manga.
His Love for Volleyball
Furudate was part of a volleyball club. He joined it during middle school and high school. He loved playing volleyball so much. He often went to school just for the club activities. This was even if his grades were not the best. His passion for volleyball clearly inspired Haikyu!!.
