Haruma Miura (三浦 春馬, Miura Haruma, April 5, 1990 – July 18, 2020) was a famous Japanese actor and singer. He started acting when he was just seven years old in a TV show called Agri (1997). He became very popular after starring in the movie Koizora (2007). For this role, he won the Newcomer of the Year award at the 31st Japan Academy Prize.
Over the years, Miura appeared in many well-known TV shows and movies. Some of these include Gokusen (2009), Bloody Monday (2009), Kimi ni Todoke (2010), and Attack on Titan (2015). He also played the role of Lola in the Japanese stage show Kinky Boots (2016), which earned him more awards. Besides acting, Miura also started a music career in 2019 with his first song "Fight for Your Heart." He released another song, "Night Diver," in 2020.

Acting Journey
Starting Out (1997–2006)
Haruma Miura began his acting career at age seven in the TV drama Agri. He was also part of a boy band called Brash Brats. After his acting school closed, he and his bandmates joined Amuse Inc., a talent agency. When Brash Brats stopped performing in 2005, Miura focused on acting.
Some of his early TV shows included Ima, Ai ni Ikimasu and 14-sai no Haha. He also appeared in films like Mori no Gakkō. His first main role was Taiyō Sasaki in the 2006 movie Catch a Wave.
Becoming Famous (2007–2010)
In 2007, Miura starred as Hiro in the movie Koizora. This role helped him win the Newcomer of the Year award at the 31st Japan Academy Film Prize. The next year, he played important roles in TV shows like Gokusen (Season 3) and Bloody Monday. He also appeared in a music video for the band Yuzu.
Miura won another award for his role in the film Naoko. By the end of 2008, he was ranked as one of the most promising young actors in Japan. In 2009, he won the Newcomer of the Year award. He also appeared in the movie Crows Zero 2 and reprised his role in Gokusen: The Movie. His first stage play was Hoshi no Daichi ni Furu Namida. In 2009, he got his first main role in a TV drama, Samurai High School.
In 2010, Miura returned for the second season of Bloody Monday. He released his third photo book, Switch, and a DVD with fellow actor Takeru Satoh about their trip to New York City. He also starred in the live-action movie Kimi ni Todoke and walked the runway as a model.
Growing Success (2011–2015)
In 2011, Miura appeared in several TV dramas, including Hi wa Mata Noboru. He also starred in the film Tokyo Park. He and Takeru Satoh released a second travel DVD, this time filmed in Malaysia, which became very popular.
In 2012 and 2013, Miura performed in stage plays like Kaitō Seven and Zipang Punk: Goemon Rock III. In 2013, he co-starred in the popular TV drama Last Cinderella. He also lent his voice to the animated film Harlock: Space Pirate and appeared in the movie The Eternal Zero, for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
In 2014, Miura starred in the TV dramas Boku no Ita Jikan and Satsujin Hensanchi 70. He released his fourth photo book, Fureru. He won an award for his performances in Last Cinderella and Boku no Ita Jikan. He also starred in the Japanese-Chinese film Five Minutes to Tomorrow, where he learned Mandarin Chinese. In 2015, Miura acted in the stage play Orpheus Descending and played Eren Jaeger in the two-part live-action movie Attack on Titan.
Music and Final Projects (2016–2020)
In 2016, Miura co-starred in the TV drama Never Let Me Go. He then took on the role of Lola in the Japanese stage version of Kinky Boots. His performance was highly praised, earning him Best New Actor and the Haruko Sugimura Award. He also appeared in the historical drama Naotora: The Lady Warlord in 2017.
In 2018, Miura co-starred in the Japanese film Sunny and Gintama 2. He also became a co-host for the travel TV show Sekai wa Hoshii Mono ni Afureteru. He continued to act in TV dramas like Tourist and Dying Eye.
In 2019, Miura was cast in the film The Confidence Man JP. He also starred in the Japanese stage play Crime and Punishment and returned as Lola for a second run of Kinky Boots. In April 2019, he took on a main role in the TV drama Two Weeks. In June 2019, he announced his first song, "Fight for Your Heart," which was the theme song for Two Weeks. The song was released in August 2019 and did well on the music charts. He also won the Asia Star Award for his role in Two Weeks.
In 2020, Miura reprised his role in The Confidence Man JP: Episode of the Princess. He was cast in the TV drama Gift of Fire and released his fifth photo book, Nihonsei. He also performed in the stage musical Whistle Down the Wind. On his 30th birthday, he announced his second song, "Night Diver," which included songs he wrote himself. He had plans for his first concerts, but they were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also co-starred in the TV drama Love Will Begin When Money End and was cast in the musical The Illusionist.
Personal Life
Miura went to Horikoshi High School and finished in 2009. He was involved in the charity event Act Against Aids from 2016 to 2020. In 2017, he spent some time studying in London.
Passing
Haruma Miura passed away on July 18, 2020. His manager found him at his home in Tokyo. He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead. News reports mentioned a note he had written expressing feelings of worry. His friends and colleagues did not agree with some media reports linking his passing to online bullying.
His funeral and burial services were held shortly after. Fans showed their respect by leaving flowers outside his home. His agency, Amuse Inc., announced plans for fans to pay their respects safely. Many people shared messages for him on social media, especially on Twitter, using a hashtag related to his travel show.
Miura's second song, "Night Diver," was released after his passing on August 24, 2020. His earlier song, "Fight for Your Heart," also became popular again on the music charts. Some of his projects, like Gift of Fire and The Illusionist, were released or continued after his death.
