Harvey Hart (born March 19, 1928 – died November 22, 1989) was a talented Canadian TV and film director. He also worked as a television producer, helping to create many shows.

Harvey Hart's Early Career
Harvey Hart studied at the University of Toronto before starting his career. In 1952, he joined the CBC. There, he worked on more than 30 television shows.
Some of his early projects included episodes of an anthology series called Festival. He directed episodes like Home of the Brave (1961) and The Luck of Ginger Coffey (1961). These were based on a play and a novel.
Directing in the United States
In 1963, Harvey Hart left the CBC and moved to the United States. He began directing episodes for popular TV series. These included The Alfred Hitchcock Hour and Star Trek.
He also directed movies for cinemas during this time. Some of his films were Bus Riley's Back in Town (1965) and The Sweet Ride (1968).
Return to Canada and Later Work
Harvey Hart moved back to Toronto in 1970. He continued to direct many feature films in Canada. These included Fortune and Men's Eyes (1971) and The Pyx (1973). He also directed Shoot (1976) and Goldenrod (1976). For Goldenrod, he won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Director.
In the mid-1970s, Hart directed four episodes of the famous detective show Columbo. These episodes were By Dawn's Early Light (1974) and A Deadly State of Mind (1975). He also directed Forgotten Lady (1975) and Now You See Him (1976).
Throughout the 1980s, he worked on films in Canada and TV shows in Los Angeles. He won a Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television Film for the mini-series East of Eden (1981). He also received a Gemini Award for Best Direction. This was for the TV crime-drama film Passion and Paradise (1989).
Harvey Hart passed away in 1989 from a heart attack.
