History of Harwood
Harwood began to grow when a railroad line was built through the area. The village's layout was officially planned in 1882. It was named after a local landowner, Mr. Harwood. A post office has been operating in Harwood since 1882.
Geography and Location
Harwood is situated in the northeast part of Vernon County. It is about 13 miles (21 km) northeast of Nevada. The village is also approximately 4.5 miles (7.2 km) south-southeast of Schell City.
