Haven is a fascinating ghost town located in Grant County, within the U.S. state of Washington. A ghost town is a place that used to be a busy community but is now mostly empty, often with few or no people living there.

What is Haven?

Haven is considered an "extinct town." This means it no longer exists as an active settlement. It's a place where buildings and roads might still be visible, but the people who once lived there have moved away.

A Short History of Haven

The town of Haven got its name from Henry H. Haven. It was officially established in 1907. For a short time, Haven even had its own post office, which opened in 1907. However, the post office closed just six years later, in 1913. After the post office closed, the town slowly became empty, turning into the ghost town it is today.

Why Towns Become Ghost Towns

Many towns, like Haven, become ghost towns for different reasons. Sometimes, it's because a local industry, like mining or farming, stops being profitable. Other times, new roads or railways bypass the town, making it harder for people to get there or for businesses to thrive. When people move away to find new opportunities, a town can slowly fade away and become a ghost town.
