Hawarden is a small town in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It is found close to Waikari, just off State Highway 7.
The town is home to the Flaxmere Gardens. It is also located in a beautiful area near the Lake Sumner Forest Park. There are many other lakes nearby too.

Hawarden's Railway History
From 1884 to 1978, Hawarden had a branch line railway called the Waiau Branch. This railway was once planned to become a main line connecting to Nelson and Blenheim.
Today, the Weka Pass Railway is a project that restores old railway lines. They once wanted to keep the line through Hawarden, but they decided to end their line in Waikari instead. You can still find some parts of the old railway line where Hawarden's railway station used to be.
