Hay Point is a coastal area in Mackay Region, Queensland, Australia. It's known for its very busy ports where lots of coal is shipped out. The area includes two smaller towns called Hector and Half Tide. In 2021, about 1,306 people lived in Hay Point.

Where is Hay Point?
Hay Point is located about 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of the city of Mackay. It sits right on the coast, next to the Coral Sea.
One interesting fact about Hay Point is its huge tides. The water level can change by about 7.4 meters (24 feet)! This is the biggest tide change on Australia's east coast.

The town of Hector, which is part of Hay Point, was first mapped out in 1902.

Hay Point's Coal Ports
Hay Point is home to two very large ports where coal is loaded onto ships. These are called the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) and the Hay Point Services Coal Terminal.
- The Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal is owned by the Queensland State Government. It's operated by a company called Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd.
- The Hay Point Services Coal Terminal is owned and run by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance. This is a partnership between two big companies, BHP and Mitsubishi.
These two terminals make Hay Point one of the biggest coal ports in the world. In 2021-2022, they exported a massive 97 million tonnes of coal!
