Headquarters is a small, unincorporated community in Clearwater County, Idaho, United States. It's not a city with its own government. You can find Headquarters about 10 miles (16 km) north of Pierce along State Highway 11.

History of Headquarters

How Headquarters Began

Headquarters started as a special kind of town called a company town. This means a company, in this case, Potlatch Corp., owned most of the homes and businesses. It was first set up in 1906 as a station to help protect the area from fires.

The Railroad Connection

For a long time, Headquarters was the very end of the Camas Prairie Railroad line in the northeast. This railroad was important for moving goods and people.

Population Changes Over Time

In 1960, about 300 people lived in Headquarters. However, in the 1980s and 1990s, many lumber mills in the area closed down. This caused a lot of people to lose their jobs, and the population of Headquarters became much smaller.
