Hearcel F. Craig, born on July 1, 1949, is an important politician from the United States. He currently serves as a State Senator for the 15th District in the Ohio State Senate. Before his political career, Mr. Craig served in the United States Army.
After his military service, he worked for the Ohio Department of Youth Services. He also helped create a program called City Year in Columbus, which helps young people serve their communities. He earned a degree from Central Michigan University. In 2007, Mr. Craig was chosen to be a member of the Columbus City Council. While on the Council, he became the President Pro Tempore, a leadership role.
In 2014, Mr. Craig decided to run for the Ohio House of Representatives. He won this election and served two terms. In 2018, he ran for the Ohio State Senate and won again. He officially started his role as a State Senator on January 6, 2019.
Serving in the Ohio State Senate
In 2018, Hearcel Craig decided to run for the Ohio State Senate. He wanted to represent Ohio's 15th State Senate District. The person who held the seat before him, Charleta Tavares, could not run again due to term limits.
Mr. Craig won both the primary election and the general election. He officially began his term as a State Senator on January 6, 2019. In 2021, his fellow Democratic senators chose him for a leadership position. He became the Assistant Minority Whip for the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus.

His Journey to Public Service
Hearcel Craig has a long history of serving his community. He started his political career on the Columbus City Council. He was first appointed to the Council in 2007. He was then elected by voters in 2007 and 2011.
In 2014, he ran for the Ohio House of Representatives. He won the primary election against Howard Heard. Then, he won the general election against Dustin Pyles with a large majority of the votes. He was re-elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2016.
In 2018, he successfully ran for the Ohio State Senate. He won the primary election against Jodi Howell. He then won the general election against Jordan Garcea. These wins show how much support he has from the people he represents.
