Heart North and Mid Wales is a popular radio station that plays music and shows for listeners in North and Mid Wales. It's part of the bigger Heart radio family. The station broadcasts from its studios located near Wrexham.
It officially started broadcasting as Heart North and Mid Wales on May 6, 2014. Before that, it was known as Heart North West and Wales. This change meant that North and Mid Wales got its own dedicated Heart station, separate from the one covering South and West Wales.

How Heart North and Mid Wales Started
In December 2008, a company called GMG Media got permission to start a new radio station for North and Mid Wales. They planned to have local shows and news just for this area. However, their plans changed, and the station ended up broadcasting across all of Wales. This station was called Real Radio Wales and it began on January 4, 2011.
Later, in February 2014, Global Radio, another big radio company, decided to sell the part of Real Radio Wales that covered North Wales to a different company called Communicorp. Because of rules from a group called OFCOM (who make sure radio stations follow the rules), the all-Wales station had to be split into two. This led to the creation of the new Heart North and Mid Wales station.
The new Heart North and Mid Wales station officially launched on May 6, 2014. It shares its broadcasting home in Gwersyllt, near Wrexham, with other radio stations like Capital North West and Wales and Capital Cymru.
In 2019, rules about local radio shows changed. Because of this, Heart North and Mid Wales started playing more shows that are made in London and broadcast across many Heart stations. Now, most of their shows come from London, but they still have some local content.
What You Can Listen To
Most of the shows you hear on Heart North and Mid Wales come from Global's main studios in London. This includes popular shows like Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden.
However, there is still a special local show made just for North and Mid Wales. This show is called the Drivetime show and it airs on weekdays from 4 PM to 7 PM. It's presented by Oli Kemp and Megan Llyn from the Wrexham studios.
News and Updates
The station provides local news updates throughout the day. News teams in Cardiff Bay and Wrexham create these hourly bulletins. You can hear regional news from 6 AM to 7 PM on weekdays and from 6 AM to 12 PM on weekends. During the morning and afternoon shows, you'll also hear headlines every half hour.
When local news isn't on, you'll hear national news updates from Global's headquarters in London every hour.
