What's the Story of Hebbville?
Hebbville gets its name from the Hebb family. This family's name is still very common in the area today.
About 100 years ago, the village was called Hebbs Mills. This was because the Hebb family owned three mills there. These mills used the power of water flowing from Hebb Lake into Fancy Lake.
Life in Hebbville Today
Hebbville has a small business area that focuses on farming and cars.
Farming in Hebbville
Two main farms in the village are owned by different branches of the Hebb family. They are related, but not closely.
- Indian Garden Farms: This farm is located off Highway #3. They grow many different fruits and vegetables. These crops are sold to people in the local area.
- Stewart Hebb's Greenhouses: This farm is on Conquerall Mills Road. They grow greenhouse plants. This farm says it's the oldest Hebb farm in Nova Scotia. The family has been working on the same land since the late 1700s!
Cars and Businesses
Just outside the Bridgewater town limits, on Dufferin Street, you'll find an "auto row." This is a street with many car dealerships. In Hebbville, this street is known as Highway #3. You can find dealers for popular car brands like Ford, Volkswagen, and Hyundai here.
Hebbville Academy
The village has one school called Hebbville Academy. It teaches students from pre-primary (PP) up to grade 9. About 687 students attend this school.
The school was built in 1997. It has many modern tools to help students learn. Hebbville Academy also serves as a main school for many students from the western part of the county.
Growing Community
Hebbville is seeing a lot of new homes being built. Many people from Bridgewater are choosing to move here. One reason is that the tax rates in Hebbville are lower. Many new houses are being planned, especially along William Hebb Road, which is close to the town limits.
Who Lives in Hebbville?
Every few years, Statistics Canada counts how many people live in different places. This is called a census.
In the 2021 Census, Hebbville had 796 people living in 334 homes. This was a small change from 2016, when 802 people lived there.
