Early Life and Music Beginnings
Hebro was born in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. He was the youngest of six children. His parents are African American Orthodox Jews. They became Jewish in the 1970s.
When Hebro was four, his family moved. He grew up in places like Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina, and St. Louis, Missouri. He went to a yeshiva (a Jewish school) from second grade through high school. After that, he studied in Israel. Hebro has shared that growing up as a Black student in mostly white Orthodox schools was sometimes hard.
Hebro's family loved to sing. He started making music after high school. He would perform freestyle raps at parties and weddings. He also joined "Battle of the Bands" contests. He did this both in Israel and later at Queens College in America.
While at Queens College, he helped organize music events for Chabad on Campus (a Jewish student group). This is where he found his love for singing live. He later decided to stay in Crown Heights to improve his music skills.
Music Career
Hebro first appeared on a song in 2011. It was a remix of "Gam" by singer-songwriter Aryeh Kunstler. The next year, Hebro performed at a Purim concert in Manhattan.
His first song and music video, "Gam Ki Eilech," came out on September 26, 2016. In 2017, he released another Purim song called "Shoshanat Yaakov Remix." He also released "Far From Perfect." This song was a team-up with singer Pinny Schachter.
Hebro's first EP (a short album) was called Genesis. It came out on March 21, 2018. The EP included "Gam Ki Eilech" and "Far From Perfect." A remix of "Far From Perfect" was also released. Hebro had a party in Manhattan to celebrate his EP. He also announced plans for a music video for his song "Souljas." In 2020, he performed at another Purim concert.
Hebro has performed with famous artists. These include Matisyahu, Nissim Black, Moshav, Lipa Schmeltzer, and Zusha.
Musical Style
Hebro's music mixes hip hop with other sounds. These include pop, reggae, R&B, Motown, and EDM.
He once said his goal is to use hip hop, pop, and R&B to spread positive messages. He wants to promote "awareness, peace, love, and unity." Hebro also aims to change what "Jewish Music" means. He sings songs based on Jewish teachings but with a fresh sound. He wants to show that Orthodox Judaism is diverse. It's not just one type of person or look.
Personal Life
Hebro lives in the Wesley Hills area of Monsey, New York. He sees himself as a Sephardi Jew. He also has a deep respect for Chabad philosophy.
