Hector first appeared in a cartoon called Peck up Your Troubles in 1945. In this cartoon, he helped stop Sylvester from catching a woodpecker. This showed his protective nature right from the start.

While Hector has had different roles, his most common job is to protect Tweety Bird from Sylvester and other dangers. He is like Tweety's personal bodyguard! He also appeared in A Hare Grows in Manhattan, where he was the leader of a street gang of dogs. But his most famous role is definitely as Tweety's protector.
