Hidayet "Hedo" Türkoğlu (born March 19, 1979) is a famous Turkish basketball player who is now a basketball executive. He played as a forward and was 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) tall.
Hedo played for six different teams during his 15 years in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He won the NBA's Most Improved Player award in the 2007–08 season. He also helped his team, the Orlando Magic, reach the NBA Finals in 2009. Besides playing in the NBA, Hedo also represented his home country, Turkey, in many international basketball games. After he stopped playing, he became the president of the Turkish Basketball Federation in 2016.

Professional Basketball Career
Playing for Efes Pilsen (1996–2000)
Hedo Türkoğlu started his professional basketball journey with a team called Efes Pilsen in Turkey in 1996. He played with them for four seasons. During his time there, he scored about 8.4 points per game in the EuroLeague.
He helped Efes Pilsen reach the 2000 EuroLeague Final Four, which is a big tournament. In those games, he averaged 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
Joining the Sacramento Kings (2000–2003)
In the year 2000, Hedo Türkoğlu was chosen by the Sacramento Kings in the NBA draft. He was the 16th player picked overall. This made him the very first player born in Turkey to play in the NBA!
He played alongside other well-known European players like Vlade Divac and Peja Stojaković. After the 2001–02 season, Hedo was considered for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award. This award goes to a great player who usually comes off the bench. That season, he averaged 10.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Playing for the San Antonio Spurs (2003–2004)
In 2003, Hedo Türkoğlu moved to the San Antonio Spurs as part of a trade. He played one season with the Spurs. During this time, he averaged 9.2 points per game. He also shot a career-best 42 percent from the three-point line.
Time with the Orlando Magic (2004–2009)
Hedo Türkoğlu joined the Orlando Magic in 2004. He had some amazing games where he scored a career-high 39 points. He did this twice: once against the Toronto Raptors in April 2007, and again against the Washington Wizards in March 2008.
On April 28, 2008, Hedo was named the NBA's Most Improved Player for the 2007–08 season. This award goes to a player who has shown a lot of improvement. That season, the Magic won 52 games. Hedo had his best season, averaging 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. He started all 82 regular-season games.
In the 2008–09 season, Hedo helped the Magic reach the NBA Finals. This was the first time the team had been there since 1995. He led the Magic in scoring during the Finals with 18.0 points per game. However, they lost the championship in five games to the Los Angeles Lakers. After this season, Hedo decided to look for a new team.
With the Toronto Raptors (2009–2010)
On July 9, 2009, Hedo Türkoğlu was traded to the Toronto Raptors. This was a big trade involving four different teams.
On March 28, 2010, Hedo did not play in a game for the Raptors. This was a team decision because he had missed a game due to illness and did not follow team rules. After this, Hedo shared in a TV interview that he felt unhappy with the Raptors and wanted to leave.
Short Time with the Phoenix Suns (2010)
On July 14, 2010, Hedo was traded to the Phoenix Suns. He played only a short time with this team.
Returning to Orlando (2010–2014)
On December 18, 2010, Hedo Türkoğlu was traded back to the Orlando Magic. He played for them again for a few more seasons. In February 2013, Hedo was suspended for 20 games. This happened after a banned substance was found in his system. Hedo said he received medicine in Turkey that contained the substance, and he did not know it was banned.
On January 3, 2014, the Magic decided to let Hedo go from the team. He did not play any games for them in the 2013–14 season.
Playing for the Los Angeles Clippers (2014–2015)
On January 16, 2014, Hedo Türkoğlu signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. He played his first game for them on January 18. He re-signed with the Clippers in September 2014 and played his last NBA season with them.
International Basketball Career
Hedo Türkoğlu was a very important player for the Turkish national team. He helped them win a silver medal at EuroBasket 2001, a major European basketball tournament. In that tournament, he averaged 15.5 points per game.
He was invited to play in the 2006 World Championship, but he chose not to participate that year.
In 2009, Hedo was part of the Turkish team that finished eighth at the 2009 EuroBasket. One year later, in 2010, he played in the 2010 FIBA World Championship in his home country, Turkey. The Turkish team won the silver medal, beating every team except for the champions, Team USA. Hedo averaged 12.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in that tournament. He also played in the 2011 EuroBasket and the 2013 EuroBasket.
In March 2014, Hedo Türkoğlu announced that he was retiring from playing for the national team.

After Playing Basketball
On November 13, 2015, Hedo Türkoğlu announced that he was retiring from playing basketball after 15 seasons in the NBA. After he retired, he was chosen to be the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the Turkish Basketball Federation. This means he helps lead and manage basketball in Turkey.
In March 2016, it was reported that Hedo was also appointed as one of the senior advisers to the President of Turkey.
About Hedo's Life
Hedo Türkoğlu was born on March 19, 1979, in Istanbul, Turkey. His parents are from a group of people called Bosniaks, who originally came from a village in North Macedonia. Hedo can speak Bosnian and Serbian fluently. He is also a Muslim.
Hedo and his wife, Banu, have two daughters. Their first daughter was born in February 2009, and their second daughter was born in April 2013.
