Helen Housby MBE is a super talented netball player from England. She was born on January 19, 1995. Helen has been a key player for the England national netball team since 2014.
Before moving to Australia, she played for Manchester Thunder in the Netball Superleague from 2013 to 2016. She even helped them win a big championship in 2014! Since 2017, she has been playing for the New South Wales Swifts in Australia.

About Helen Housby
Helen grew up in the countryside of Cumbria, England, surrounded by animals. She is a big fan of Manchester United F.C. and looked up to football star David Beckham. Helen even studied zoology (the study of animals) at the University of Manchester.
In 2022, a video of Helen doing a TikTok dance during an England game became super popular. It was posted by the official Commonwealth Games TikTok account and was watched over 1.1 million times!
Helen's Club Career
Playing for Manchester Thunder (2013-2016)
Helen was discovered when she was just 15 years old. She joined the Manchester Thunder team and made her first appearance in 2013. By 2014, she was a regular player.
She helped her team win the 2014 Netball Superleague Grand-Final against their rivals, Surrey Storm. Helen scored an amazing long-range shot right at the very end of the game to secure the win! She also played in the grand final again in 2016, but her team lost by just two goals.
Playing for New South Wales Swifts (2017-Present)
In 2017, Helen moved to Australia to join the New South Wales Swifts team. She has been a big part of their success, helping them win the Suncorp Super Netball championship in both 2019 and 2021. The team also made it to the final in 2023. Helen was even named the Swifts' Most Valuable Player (MVP) in both 2023 and 2024!
Helen's International Career
Helen first played for the England national netball team at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The team finished in fourth place there. The next year, she helped England win a bronze medal at the 2015 Netball World Cup.
Winning Gold at the Commonwealth Games
In 2018, Helen made history with the England team at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. She scored the winning goal in the final second of the game against Australia, giving England a one-point victory and a gold medal!
Before that, England had also beaten Jamaica in the semi-final by just one point, thanks to another last-minute goal. This was extra special because Jamaica had narrowly beaten England for the bronze medal in 2014. For their amazing performance, the England team won the BBC Sports Team of the Year Award and the BBC Greatest Sporting Moment of the Year in 2018.
Netball World Cup Success
Helen was also part of England's team for the 2019 Netball World Cup and the 2022 Commonwealth Games. In both events, England finished in third place, earning bronze medals.
She also played for England at the 2023 Netball World Cup. Helen was named the player of the tournament and the 'best shooter' at this event. England reached the final but lost to Australia.
Special Recognition
For all her amazing contributions to netball, Helen Housby was given the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2024 New Year Honours. This is a special award from the King of England!
