Helen Slater, born on December 15, 1963, is an American actress and singer. She also writes songs.
She is most famous for playing the superheroine Supergirl in the 1984 movie Supergirl. Helen Slater has also appeared in many other films. These include The Legend of Billie Jean (1985), Ruthless People (1986), and City Slickers (1991).
Later, she voiced Talia al Ghul in Batman: The Animated Series. She also played Lara-El in the TV show Smallville. From 2015 to 2021, she played Eliza Danvers in the Supergirl TV series.

About Helen Slater
Early Life and Education
Helen Rachel Slater was born in Bethpage, New York. Her mother, Alice Joan, was a lawyer and worked for peace. Her father, Gerald Slater, was a television executive. Her parents separated in 1974. Helen Slater is Jewish. She has a brother named David, who is a lawyer.
Helen went to William A. Shine Great Neck South High School. She then moved to the High School of Performing Arts. She finished high school in 1982.
Acting Career
Helen Slater became well-known for her role as Supergirl in the 1984 movie. After that, she starred in several other films. These included The Legend of Billie Jean in 1985 and Ruthless People in 1986. She also appeared in The Secret of My Success (1987) and City Slickers (1991).
Helen Slater has also worked a lot in television and on stage. She has appeared in many Superman-related projects. She played Superman's mother, Lara-El, in the TV series Smallville. She also played Supergirl's adoptive mother, Eliza Danvers, in the Supergirl TV series. She even played Clark Kent's adoptive mother, Martha Kent, in some animated films.
In 2023, Helen Slater's image was used for a computer-animated appearance in The Flash movie. This was a special way to show her as Supergirl again.
Stage Performances
In 1987, Helen Slater helped start a theater group in New York called Naked Angels. In 1991, she and her husband, Robert Watzke, started another theater group in Los Angeles called The Bubalaires.
Helen Slater has acted in several plays. She performed in Almost Romance and Responsible Parties off-Broadway. She also starred in The Big Deal at the Pasadena Playhouse.
Music and Writing
Helen Slater is also a talented musician and writer. In 2003, she released her first music album, One of These Days. This album featured her original songs. She sang and played the piano live with other musicians.
She released a second album, Crossword, in 2005. Both albums were recorded in a special way, without extra editing. She has released four more albums since then. Two of these, The Myth of Ancient Greece (2013) and The Ugly Duckling (2015), were made especially for children. Her most recent album, Selkie, came out in 2019.
In 2010, Helen Slater wrote a story for the Supergirl comic book series. The story was called "A Hero's Journey".
