Helena Mattsson (born March 30, 1984) is a Swedish actress who works mostly in the United States. She started her career in plays in Sweden before moving to America to become a movie and television star.
She is known for her roles in the science fiction movie Species – The Awakening and other films like You and I (2008), Surrogates (2009), and Guns, Girls and Gambling (2012).

Early Life and First Steps in Acting
Helena Mattsson was born and grew up in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Her younger sister, Sofia, is also an actress. Helena loved acting from a young age and performed in plays, musicals, and concerts.
She went to a special high school called Södra Latin in Stockholm, where she studied acting. She said this school gave her the confidence to follow her dream of becoming a professional actress. As a teenager, she moved to London, England, to attend a theater school and improve her skills.
Career in Hollywood
Moving to America
When she was 19, Helena moved to Hollywood for what she thought would be a short trip to audition for a TV show. However, she got a part in a TV pilot called Sweden, Ohio, and her visit became permanent.
At first, it was hard for her to get roles because of her Swedish accent. She said, "When I started working, my thick Swedish accent lost me a lot of roles." Once she was able to speak with a more American accent, her career started to take off. During this time, she also appeared in the Swedish movie Drowning Ghost and was a guest star on American TV shows like CSI: NY and Cold Case.
Big Roles in Movies and TV
In 2007, Helena starred in the science fiction movie Species – The Awakening, where she played a character who was part human and part alien. The next year, she was in the movie You and I, which was about the Russian pop group t.A.T.u.. In 2009, she acted in the sci-fi film Surrogates.
Helena also became a familiar face on television. She had guest roles on popular shows like Two and a Half Men, Rules of Engagement, and NCIS: Los Angeles. In 2010, she had a small part in the superhero movie Iron Man 2 and a recurring role as Irina Kosokov in the hit series Desperate Housewives. She also appeared in three episodes of the action show Nikita.

In 2012, Helena starred with famous actors Gary Oldman and Christian Slater in the movie Guns, Girls and Gambling. That same year, she was a main character in the TV series 666 Park Avenue.
She continued to work on many TV shows, including Betrayal, Mistresses, and Fargo. From 2015 to 2016, she had a recurring role in the popular series American Horror Story: Hotel.
In 2018, Helena played the Swedish actress Britt Ekland in the HBO movie My Dinner with Hervé. In the same year, she starred with her real-life sister, Sofia, in a TV thriller movie called My Husband's Secret Wife. From 2021 to 2022, she had a recurring role in the police drama The Rookie. In 2022, she even filled in for her sister Sofia on the soap opera General Hospital, playing the character Sasha Gilmore.
