Helena West Side is a special kind of community in Lewis and Clark County, Montana, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that looks like a town but isn't officially a city. The government counts its population for the census.
In 2020, about 1,331 people lived in Helena West Side. Back in 2010, the population was 1,637. It was a bit higher in 2000 with 1,711 people. The number went down because some parts of Helena West Side became part of the nearby city of Helena.

Where is Helena West Side Located?
Helena West Side is found in the southern part of Lewis and Clark County. It sits right next to the city of Helena on its east side. To the northeast, it borders another CDP called Helena Valley West Central.
A main road, U.S. Route 12, goes through the community. If you drive east on this road, you'll reach downtown Helena in about 3 miles (5 km). If you go west, you'll cross the Continental Divide and reach Interstate 90 at Garrison in about 40 miles (64 km).
The area covers about 15.3 square miles (39.6 square kilometers). Most of this land is dry, but a very small part (about 0.02 square miles or 0.06 square kilometers) is water. The center of Helena West Side is in the valley of Tenmile Creek. This creek starts at the Continental Divide and flows northeast towards the Missouri River.

In the year 2000, there were 1,711 people living in Helena West Side. They lived in 725 homes, and 480 of these were families. The population density was about 116 people per square mile (45 people per square kilometer).
Most of the people living here were White (95.03%). There were also small numbers of Native American (1.58%), Asian (0.35%), and African American (0.12%) residents. About 1.46% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
About 30.5% of the homes had children under 18 years old. Many homes (52.1%) were married couples living together. The average household had 2.35 people, and the average family had 2.87 people.
