Hendry Bernardo Thomas Suazo (born 23 February 1985) is a former professional footballer from Honduras. He was also known by his nickname Buchuca. Hendry played as a defensive midfielder, which means he helped protect his team's goal.

People described Thomas as a strong and hardworking player. He was known for his physical strength and his ability to run a lot during games. He also had good technical skills, which helped him play well in his midfield role.

Starting His Football Journey

Hendry Thomas began his professional football career at a young age. He made his first appearance for Olimpia, a team in Honduras, on September 26, 2001. He was only 16 years old at the time.

He continued to play for Olimpia, which is based in Tegucigalpa. During his time there, Olimpia won many games in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol. Hendry even scored Olimpia's 2000th goal in the club's history! Hendry is also related to other footballers like Maynor Suazo, David Suazo, and Allan Lalín.

Playing in England: Wigan Athletic

In July 2009, Hendry Thomas moved to England to play for Wigan Athletic. This team was part of the Premier League, which is a top football league. He signed a three-year contract with them.

Hendry made his first game for Wigan on August 15, 2009, against Aston Villa. He even helped his team score a goal in their 2–0 win. Early in his time at Wigan, he quickly became a key player. He won "Man of the Match" in one game and "Most Impressive Player" in another.

He often played alongside Mohamed Diamé in the midfield. Their manager, Roberto Martínez, praised their strong teamwork. Hendry played regularly for Wigan during the 2009–10 and 2010–11 seasons. He was known for his energetic performances in the middle of the field.

Towards the end of the 2010–11 season, Wigan was in danger of being moved down to a lower league. Hendry didn't play as much then, but Wigan managed to stay in the Premier League. This was thanks to a 1–0 win against Stoke City on the last day of the season.

In the 2011–12 season, Hendry found it harder to get into the team. He only played in two matches that season. At the end of the 2011–12 season, Hendry left Wigan Athletic when his contract ended.

Playing in the USA: Major League Soccer

On August 20, 2012, Hendry Thomas moved to the United States. He joined the Colorado Rapids, a team in Major League Soccer (MLS). He was excited about this new challenge.

He played his first game for the Colorado Rapids on August 31, 2012. After playing for half a season, he signed a longer contract with the club. On March 30, 2013, he scored his first goal for the Rapids from a penalty kick. He dedicated this goal to his family and his fans in Honduras.

In 2014, Hendry followed his coach, Óscar Pareja, to another MLS team, FC Dallas. However, he missed the second half of that season due to an injury. In December 2014, FC Dallas decided not to sign him for the next season.

Playing for His Country

Hendry Thomas also played for the Honduras national team. He made his first appearance for Honduras in February 2005. Overall, he played 52 games for his country and scored 2 goals.

He represented Honduras in many important tournaments. These included 15 FIFA World Cup qualification matches and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He also played in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Hendry was part of the Honduras team in the 2005 and 2009 UNCAF Nations Cup, as well as the 2005 and 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. His last game for Honduras was a friendly match against Colombia in September 2011.

About Hendry's Life

In October 2013, Hendry Thomas received his U.S. green card. This meant he was considered a "domestic player" for MLS teams.

While playing for the Colorado Rapids, his teammates Jaime Castrillón and Luis Eduardo Zapata gave him the nickname "El Patrón." Before that, he was known as "El Doctór" when he played in Honduras.
