Henny Elisabeth Moan (born February 22, 1936 – died September 8, 2024) was a famous actress from Norway. She had a very long career in theatre. She is also well-known for her roles in classic Norwegian movies. These include Nine Lives (1957), which was nominated for an Oscar, and Lake of the Dead (1958). Henny Moan was married to the writer André Bjerke. Later, she lived with the singer Ole Paus.

About Henny Moan
Early Life and Education
Henny Moan was born in Alta, in a part of Norway called Finnmark, on February 22, 1936. She grew up in Gratangen and Narvik. When she was 17, she decided to move to Oslo. She wanted to study acting at the Norwegian Theatre Academy. She was accepted into the very first class at this school in 1953. Before moving, she worked at a gas station in Northern Norway.
Henny Moan was known for her short hair. She started wearing her hair this way in 1954. At that time, it was quite unusual for girls to have such short hair. She said she did it because it was easy to manage. Also, she had worn her hair short as a child to avoid lice.
Family Life
From 1959 to 1972, Henny Moan was married to the famous Norwegian writer André Bjerke. They had a daughter named Vilde in 1960. Vilde later wrote a book about her childhood. Henny and André lived together until their daughter was nine years old.
After her marriage, Henny Moan lived with the singer and songwriter Ole Paus. They were together from 1973 to 1976. They had one son together.
Henny Moan lived in Bærum, Norway. She bought her house there in 1963. She passed away on September 8, 2024, at the age of 88.

Theatre and Stage Work
Henny Moan performed in many plays at important theatres in Norway. She acted at Det Norske Teatret (the Norwegian Theater), Oslo Nye Teater, and Nationaltheatret (the National Theatre). Some of her famous roles include "Marguerite" in Dumas's play The Lady of the Camellias. She also played "Miss Julie" in Strindberg's play of the same name. In 2006, she won a special award called "Aase Byes ærespris" for her work. She retired from acting in early 2007. After retiring, she began writing a book about her life.
Film and Television Roles
Henny Moan is also well-known for her work in movies. In 1957, she had a role in Nine Lives. This film was nominated for an Oscar. In 2005, a group of movie critics voted Nine Lives the best movie in the history of Norwegian film. After this success, she received offers to act in Hollywood movies. However, she chose to stay and work in Norway.
While she was married to André Bjerke, she acted in a movie based on his book Lake of the Dead. In this film, she was part of a very famous scene. She walked in a white, see-through dress along a small lake (called a tarn) in the forest. More recently, she had a small part in Bent Hamer's movie O' Horten.
On television, she was known for her role in the 1978 science fiction series Blindpassasjer (Blind passengers). This show was written by Tor Åge Bringsværd and Jon Bing. In 1975, she played "Edvarda" in a TV series. This series was based on Knut Hamsun's books Benoni and Rosa. Henny Moan also worked on television dramas for several years.
Awards and Honors
Henny Moan received the Amanda honorary award in 2010. This is a very important award in Norwegian film. In 2020, she was honored as a Commander of the Order of St. Olav. This is a high award given by the King of Norway.
