Henri Le Fevre Brown (born May 30, 1842, died April 29, 1910) was an American soldier. He fought in the American Civil War, a major war in the United States.
Henri Brown received the Medal of Honor. This is the highest award for bravery a soldier can get in the United States. He earned it for his brave actions during the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia. This happened on May 6, 1864. He officially received the award on June 23, 1896.
Henri Brown's Early Life and Service
Henri Brown was born in Jamestown, New York, on May 30, 1842. He joined the army on July 23, 1861. He became part of Company G, 72nd New York Volunteer Infantry. He joined in Ellicott, New York.
He served in this company until June 23, 1864. After that, he moved to the 120th New York Infantry. It was while he was still with the 72nd Volunteer Infantry that he performed his brave act. This act earned him the Medal of Honor. He left the army on June 3, 1865, when the war ended.
Later Life and Legacy
In 1902, Henri Brown wrote a book. It was called The History of the Third Regiment, Excelsior Brigade, 72nd New York Volunteer Infantry. This book shared the story of his army unit.
He passed away on April 29, 1910. His resting place is at the Lake View Cemetery in New York.
