He was famous for his books about the land, people, and animals of the outback in Queensland. Besides his novels and non-fiction books, he wrote over 900 articles for magazines like Walkabout. At one point, people thought he was like the Australian "Thompson Seton", who was a famous writer about nature and animals.

Early Life and Education

Henry Lamond was born at Carl Creek, which is in Queensland's Gulf Country. He went to school at Brisbane Grammar School. Later, he studied at the Queensland Agricultural College in Gatton. His father, James Lamond, later became a police inspector.

Life as a Farmer

From 1902 to 1927, Henry Lamond worked many different jobs on farms in western Queensland. He started as a jackaroo, which is a trainee on a sheep or cattle station. He also worked as a horse-breaker and even managed some properties.

On June 27, 1910, Henry Lamond married Eileen Meta Olive McMillan. They got married at Maneroo Station, which was about 64 kilometers (40 miles) from Longreach. They had three children: a daughter and two sons. Sadly, one of their sons, Hal, passed away in 1942 while serving in the Royal Australian Air Force.

From 1927 to 1937, Henry Lamond rented the Molle Islands. These islands are part of the Whitsunday Group near Proserpine, Queensland. He farmed on South Molle Island and even started a mail service to the mainland.

Becoming a Writer
