Henry Hagg Lake, often called Hagg Lake, is a man-made lake in northwest Oregon, United States. It's a popular spot for outdoor fun! This lake was created by building a dam across Scoggins Creek. The creek and the lake are part of the Tualatin River’s water system. You can find Hagg Lake about 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Forest Grove.
Discover Henry Hagg Lake
Henry Hagg Lake is a large reservoir, which means it's an artificial lake built to store water. It holds about 53,640 acre-feet of water. An acre-foot is the amount of water needed to cover one acre of land with water one foot deep. That's a lot of water!
Scoggins Dam: How the Lake Was Made
The Scoggins Dam was built in 1975 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation. This government agency still owns and runs the dam today. The dam helps create Hagg Lake by holding back the waters of Scoggins Creek.
The water from Hagg Lake is very important for the local area. Some of it is used by an organization called Clean Water Services. They use the lake's water to add to the flow of the Tualatin River during the summer. This helps keep the river cooler and improves its water quality. Water from the lake is also used by four nearby cities and the Tualatin Valley Water District for drinking and other needs.
