Henry Norbury was an important English soldier and nobleman who lived a long time ago. He was born in 1415. He came from places called Hoddesdon and Little Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire, England. Henry also served as a Member of Parliament for Bedfordshire. This meant he helped make laws for the country.
Early Life and Family
Henry Norbury was the oldest son of John Norbury. His mother was Elizabeth Butler. Elizabeth's father was Sir Thomas Butler, who was also a Member of Parliament. Henry's family lived in Hoddesdon and Little Berkhamsted.
Military Service
Henry Norbury was a brave soldier. In December 1435, he left Portsmouth with 1,000 men. They went to France to help the city of Rouen in 1436.
Later, in 1450, Henry was part of a group of soldiers at the siege of Valognes. A siege is when an army surrounds a town or castle to try and capture it. He also led a group of soldiers from Vire, a town in Normandy. During this time, he was captured at the Battle of Formigny.
Serving in Parliament
Besides being a soldier, Henry Norbury also served his country in another way. He was a Member of Parliament for Bedfordshire. He held this important position in 1454.
Family Life
Henry Norbury married Anne Croyser. Anne was the daughter and heiress of William Croyser. She came from Stoke d'Abernon in Surrey. Henry and Anne had several children together:
- Sir John Norbury: He was their oldest son. John married Jane Gilbert. They had one daughter named Anne Norbury. Anne later married Sir Richard Haleighwell. Their daughter, Jane Haleighwell, married Edmund Braye, 1st Baron Braye.
