Henry Parker, 10th Baron Morley (born between 1476 and 1481, died in 1553 or 1556) was an important English noble and a talented translator. He held the title of Lord of Morley, Hingham, and Hockering in Norfolk, England.

Life of a Nobleman

Henry Parker was the son of Alice Parker, who was the 9th Baroness Morley, and Sir William Parker. His father was a trusted advisor to King Richard III and also carried the king's flag in battles.

Henry Parker married Alice St John. Together, they had a son named Sir Henry Parker. This son was honored with a knighthood during the coronation of Queen Anne Boleyn. Sadly, Sir Henry Parker passed away before his father. Because of this, Henry Parker's grandson, also named Henry, later became the 11th Baron Morley.

Henry Parker also had two daughters. One daughter, Margaret, married John Shelton. His other daughter, Jane, married George Boleyn, who was the brother of Anne Boleyn. Anne Boleyn later became the second wife of King Henry VIII.

Important Roles and Talents

In 1523, Henry Parker was chosen for a special job. He traveled to Germany as an ambassador, which means he represented England. His mission was to give a very special award called the Order of the Garter to Archduke Ferdinand. This award is one of the oldest and most respected honors in England.

Henry Parker loved books and learning. He was known for his literary skills and spent time translating important writings from famous ancient thinkers like Plutarch, Seneca, and Cicero into English. This helped more people in England read these classic works. In 1553, he received another honor when he was made a Knight of the Bath.

During the time of King Henry VIII, Henry Parker was involved in important court cases. He was part of the group that made decisions in trials, including those involving his son-in-law, George Boleyn, and George's sister, Queen Anne Boleyn. These were very significant events in English history.
