High School Basketball Journey
Henry Sims played high school basketball at Mt. Saint Joseph High in Baltimore, Maryland. In his senior year, he was a star player. He averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds per game.
Sims helped his team win three championships. These were the BCL and MIAA Championships. He also earned special awards like Player of the Year and All-Metro honors.
College Basketball Experience
Sims played for four years at Georgetown University. During his time there, he played in 104 games. He started 17 of those games. On average, he scored 3.8 points and grabbed 2.6 rebounds per game.
His best season was his senior year. He averaged 11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. He was very good at shooting, making 46.3 percent of his shots.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Henry Sims started his professional basketball journey. He played for many teams in different leagues.
Starting in the NBA D-League
After the 2012 NBA draft, Sims joined the Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls for summer leagues. He later signed with the New York Knicks but was waived. In November 2012, he joined the Erie BayHawks in the NBA Development League (now called the G-League).
In February 2013, Sims was chosen for the NBA D-League All-Star Game. This showed he was one of the best young players in the league.
Time with NBA Teams
In March 2013, Sims signed a short contract with the New Orleans Hornets. He played in two games before returning to the BayHawks. Later, he played for the Petron Blaze Boosters in the Philippines.
He then joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2013. During this time, he also played for their D-League team, the Canton Charge.
In February 2014, Sims was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. He had some great games with the 76ers. On March 22, 2014, he scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds. On April 4, 2014, he scored a career-high 24 points in a win against the Boston Celtics. He played for the 76ers until 2015.
In March 2016, Sims signed with the Brooklyn Nets. He played 14 games for them, averaging 6.5 points and 5.1 rebounds.
Playing Overseas and D-League Returns
After his time with the Nets, Sims continued to play in different leagues. He returned to the NBA Development League, playing for the Grand Rapids Drive and the Salt Lake City Stars. With the Salt Lake City Stars, he averaged 18.2 points and 8.3 rebounds in 11 games.
Sims also played internationally. He joined the Shanxi Brave Dragons in China in 2016. Later, he moved to Italy, playing for Vanoli Cremona (2017–2018), Virtus Roma (2018–2019), and Fortitudo Bologna (2019–2020). In Bologna, he averaged 15.1 points and 8.9 rebounds.
He also played in South Korea for the Incheon Electroland Elephants (2020–2021). He returned to Italy to play for Reggio Emilia (2021) and Universo Treviso (2021–2022). More recently, he played for Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus in South Korea (2022–2023), Broncos de Caracas in Venezuela (2023), and Ohud Medina in Saudi Arabia (2023–2024).
